Ethical charter
“Every time you spend money, you're casting a vote for the kind of world you want”.
A. Lappé
This sounds obvious, but we often tend to forget it. Every act of purchase is about expressing a choice about the world we want. Being interested in the history of a product and the ethical qualities it presents is therefore a good way to guide our consumption according to our convictions.
At Fany, we are aware that a perfect brand does not exist. However, we are committed to encouraging good initiatives undertaken by those who place ethics at the heart of their concerns. We therefore ask our partner designers to be transparent with us, and sincere in their actions. We like to know their story and understand the behind the scenes of the causes they defend. More than labels, it is the human being who prevails in our choices.
Being part of an eco-responsible approach is therefore a sine qua non condition for our partner designers to be able to exhibit with us.
Concretely, what type of brand and product can we find on Fany?
● Independent brands. That is, companies that are owned, run or managed by the creators themselves or their families.
● Handmade or artisanal items. They are, in fact, less polluting and less energy-intensive than mass market products.
● Unique or small series pieces, made in workshops on a human scale, thus encouraging responsible production and limiting the impact on the environment
● Items made in healthy working conditions and with decent pay. We encourage collaborations with local artisans that lead to a real social impact.
● Items whose raw materials have been ethically sourced and which have undergone eco-responsible manufacturing processes
● Items made from natural materials and not tested on animals when it comes to cosmetic products
● We believe that all life is precious, which is why we will never accept to commercialize the skin or fur of an animal killed for this purpose.
● When it comes to an item containing natural wood, it is necessary that the wood is sustainably sourced. Products whose raw material comes from an act of illegal deforestation are strictly prohibited.
Okay. But how can we recognize the ethical qualities of different items?
In addition to respecting the conditions mentioned above, each creator is required to provide information on the ethical qualities that characterize their articles. We present them to you in the form of tags on the product sheet to help you make your choice according to your sensibilities:
